Journalist Christiane Amanpour is the latest celebrity to reveal an ovarian cancer diagnosis. By taking this courageous step, she has made the ovarian cancer room bigger, contributing to awareness and discussion of the condition around the world and helping others with ovarian cancer feel less alone.
The CNN anchor said that she has already undergone surgery to treat her cancer, and that she’s now in the midst of chemotherapy treatment to boost her long-term prognosis.
Surgery and chemotherapy are common topics on MyOvarianCancerTeam. “Isn’t it interesting to read how we all have similar — yet different — stories, and here we are all going through our surgeries and chemotherapy,” one member said.
As part of her diagnosis, Amanpour noted that she’s committed to urging “women to educate themselves on this disease; to get all the regular screenings and scans that you can; to always listen to your bodies; and of course to ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished."
